The American psychologist and professor Howard Gardner of Harvard University has won the Prince of Asturias Prize for Social Sciences 2011, as the jury's decision released today at the Hotel de la Reconquista in Oviedo. The court distinguished Gardner for their "social and ethical commitment to improving the education system, its commitment to excellence, internationally relevant and important scientific production of high quality."

Gardner (Scranton, USA, 1943) is internationally known for his theory of multiple intelligences, which holds that there is no single intelligence, but each individual has at least eight skills cognitive, linguistic intelligence, logical-mathematical, bodily-kinetic, musical, spatial, naturalist, interpersonal and intrapersonal.

And consider that these intelligences have no intrinsic value and that the behavior of each individual in society, using his intelligence, is a fundamental moral issue. According to the jury, Gardner's work on cognitive abilities of human beings "are critical to the evolution of the educational model to take into account the innate potential of every individual."
